A Congressional Budget Office (CBO) study estimates that DoD baseline budgets will need to average about $573 billion per year through 2028, adjusted for inflation, to meet the requirements of its FY2010 budget plan. This excludes funding for overseas contingency operations. If war costs and other unbudgeted costs (e.g. unexpected weapons contract increases, rising medical care costs, and higher fuel prices) are included, DoD budgets would need to average about $630 billion per year through 2028. This report is the latest update of CBO’s ongoing study of the long-term implications of the DoD budget plan.
