The Army has announced the appointment of Lt Gen Susan S. Lawrence to be its Chief Information Officer (CIO)/G6. As the Army’s CIO, Lawrence will be responsible for Army Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4) and Information Technology (IT) functions. In her role as G6, she will support the Army Chief of Staff in areas of information management, network operations, force structure, and equipping the signal forces. Lawrence has been serving as the Commander of the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command/9th Signal Command. She has also held posts of Commanding General of the 5th Signal Command and the CIO/G6 for U.S. Army Europe and the Seventh Army. In other assignments, Lawrence was Vice Director of J-6, Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), and the Director of C4, J-6, U.S. Central Command. Lawrence replaces Lt. Gen. Jeff Sorenson.

The Army needs to institutionalize the JCIDS process, and use it to enact a Capabilities-Based approach to Integrated Architectures. AJV
This will entail the elimination of gaps in an Organization-Based architecture via the use of Technical Profiles linked to applications,systems and other network elements.
