President Obama has nominated Jon T. Rymer to be the new Inspector General (IG) of the Department of Defense. The DoD IG position has been open since Gordon Heddell resigned in December 2011. Lynne M. Halbrooks, Principal Deputy IG, has been serving as Acting DoD IG.

Mr. Rymer is currently serving as the Inspector General of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), a post he has held since July 5, 2006. He also served as interim Inspector General of the Securities and Exchange Commission from May 31, 2012 until January 31, 2013. He is chair of the Audit Committee of the Counsel of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency.

Mr. Rymer was a Director of KPMG LLP from 1997 to 2004. AT KPMG he specialized in process improvement, assurance processes, and internal auditing. Prior to that he served as Executive Vice President at Boatman’s Bank of Arkansas (1992-1997) and Executive Vice President of First American National Bank of Tennessee (1981-1992).

He has served in U.S. Army active and reserve components for 33 years and graduated from the U.S. Army Inspectors General School. He is a Command Sergeant Major in the Army Reserve.

Mr. Rymer is a Certified Internal Auditor and a Certified Government Auditing Professional.
