David Wennergren, assistant chief management officer (CMO), presented Chief Information Officer awards for 2010 to individuals and teams selected for their outstanding achievement in information management and information technology.  The recipients were selected from 70 nominations of DoD military and civilian personnel and teams worldwide.  Nominees were evaluated for their achievement in the areas of acquisition, management and standards, identity and information assurance and cyber operations, and information management and data sharing.  Wennergren applauded the recipients and telling them that CIOs are often in the spotlight when things go wrong, but “every day good things are happening [in DoD’s information management and technology] and you don’t get so much attention.”  First place in the team awards was given to the Project Director Team, Defense Communications System-SW Asia, Ft Belvoir. Second through fifth place team awards went to:  the Collaboration Support and Information Division Ronna Team at JFCOM, Norfolk, VA; the Joint Staff CIO Team;  the DoD Visitor Team, DISA, Baltimore; and the Apps for the Army Challenge Team.  First place individual awards went to Lt Cmdr. James Gateau, USEUCOM, Stuttgart, Germany, and Jack Summers, command information officer for Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md.  James Lee, Army team chief for Radio Frequency-In Transit Visibility received a second place individual award.
