On 1 June, the family of Ms. Elsie Steffany released the following statement, "On Friday, 1 June 2018 at 1417 hrs, Elsie Steffany passed away quietly. The Steffany family appreciates your prayers and support.”
Following receipt of the statement from her family, on the afternoon of 1 June, ASMC broadcast a message to attendees of our 2018 Professional Development Institute (and also posted info on the ASMC website and other social media) advising of the passing of Ms. Elsie Steffany at the Denver Health Hospital with her family at her bedside, following the tragic accident that had occurred two days earlier.
ASMC continues to extend our deepest condolences to the Steffany family.
Elsie was a GS-15 employee of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller). A member of our ASMC Washington Chapter, Elsie was also a Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) and participated in activities of our Redstone-Huntsville Chapter in Alabama, while on detail there doing work for the Army Materiel Command.
To honor her life, ASMC is developing an annual Elsie Steffany Scholarship program. Following approval by the ASMC Executive Committee in early July, more details about the annual scholarship will be provided to ASMC Chapter Presidents and also included on ASMC’s website in the Awards area.
A memorial service in honor of Ms. Elsie Steffany for friends and co-workers will be conducted on Friday, 22 June 2018 from 1000-1200 at the Fort Myer Memorial Chapel. Due to limited seating capacity at the chapel, individuals other than friends and co-workers are encouraged to send condolences to her family at 9990 NW Bartlett Loop, North Plains OR 97133.
Also, in lieu of flowers, the family is recommending a donation to a charity that Elsie supported, "Project Never Again” which supports the needs of children going into foster home care.
The Fort Myer Memorial Chapel is located at 101 McNair Road, Building 480, Fort Myer, Virginia 22211. Non-DoD visitors may enter Fort Myer (with a valid ID) through the Hatfield Gate, located off Washington Blvd and South 2nd Street.
There will also be a memorial service on 30 June in Hawaii for family and friends located there.
